Took off from Gatwick in lovely sunshine - great view of Horsham - and touched down in cloudy Guernsey 35 minutes later. (Just slightly quicker than going to New Zealand!) Then it took longer to sign the paperwork for the hire car than to drive to our apartment. Total journey time from door to door - 4 hours. All went to plan with the airport assistance for Val, but there was a little hiccup regarding the wheelchair that Bernard had pre-booked through the St John Ambulance - it was supposed to be here when we arrived. With the help of our gem of a housekeeper, Sandra, he discovered that they no longer give this service! However Sandra has a friend and she borrowed one from a local centre for the disabled and it was here an hour later. Success.

Del Mar Court is a small group of apartments surrounding a heated pool, close to St. Martin's village. Ours is lovely, with 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and has been refurbished and extended for this season. After tea on our patio and a 'big shop' at the Co-op and M&S Foods we felt really settled in. Then it was a short drive into St. Peter Port for our first walk around the harbour and have a super meal at The Boathouse looking out at the bobbing boats. Just a shame that the clouds have lingered all evening and occasionally turned to a drizzle. Our waitress told us that it will get better tomorrow.
